What age is senior discount at BART? ›

Youth & Senior Discount

Youth 5-18 years old get 50% off with a youth Clipper card. Seniors age 65 and over get 62.5% off with a Senior Clipper card.

BART takes you downtown in 30 minutes for only $5.35 one-way or $10.70 round trip.

Any person inside the paid area of BART must be prepared to show a magnetic stripe ticket or Clipper card with valid fare. People who violate the ordinance will be issued a citation.

If you would like to leave your vehicle overnight, please purchase Single/Multi-day reserved parking on the official BART app, which allows you to leave your vehicle for up to 20 paid weekdays at a time (weekends and BART holidays are free).

BART accepts the following on a Clipper card: Cash value: For single rides. Clipper customers get discounts on one-way fares of 50 cents for adults, 25 cents for youth and 19 cents for senior and disabled riders.

You can get a 6.25% discount on BART rides ($45 for a $48 ticket or $60 for a $64 ticket) when you load BART HVD (High Value Discount) tickets on your adult Clipper card.

Taking the train has long been less expensive than driving when considering bridge tolls and parking — and now it's an even more affordable option when you consider most Bay Area gas stations are charging more than $6 a gallon.

All BART Stations have Clipper vending machines which accept cash, credit cards and debit cards as payment. You can add cash value to Clipper cards at all BART ticket machines. Clipper cards can be ordered online at www.clippercard.com. Many retail outlets throughout the region also sell Clipper cards.

Reserved parking costs $6/day (on weekdays; weekends are free) or $105 for the month at most stations, plus applicable taxes for stations within the city of Oakland.

What happens if I forget to tag off? If you do not tag off within 4 hours, you will be charged the maximum one-way fare from your starting point. Clipper will deduct this amount from your cash balance.

Don't sleep on board train cars. The Train Operator is in the first train car; it's a great place to sit if you are traveling alone. If something makes you feel uncomfortable, move to another train car.

Given that "safe" is a relative term, I would say that BART is quite safe between 9:30 and 10:30 PM.

SENIOR CITIZENS (AGED 60+)

The age for senior discounts ranges from 50 to 65, with the majority of deals starting at age 55 or 60. For the earliest deals, you'll want to join the AARP, which is required for quite a few senior discounts.

Free Muni for Seniors (ages 65+) This program provides low and moderate income seniors residing in San Francisco free access to Muni services, including cable cars, when using a Clipper card.

Fares are based on how far you travel. Fare charts are posted on each BART ticket vending machine. Destinations are listed alphabetically with the one-way and round-trip fares. Once you have your ticket, you will pass through a fare gate that will scan the ticket and give it back to you.
