Is Greek life big at IU? ›

Almost 8,000 students at IU are members of the sorority and fraternity community, making up approximately 24% of the undergraduate student body. By joining a sorority or fraternity, you have the opportunity to continue a legacy at IU and make your mark on the community.

Four Governing Councils

The 66 Greek chapters at IU are governed by one of four councils.

January 5, 1911. Kappa Alpha Psi was the first fraternity to be nationally founded at Indiana University.

Dietrich, a senior majoring in computer science, is vice president of recruitment for the IU Panhellenic Association. That means she oversees the process that normally brings more than 1,000 new members into 22 different sorority chapters at IU Bloomington.

By our count, at least 34 of the billionaires on the Forbes 400 list were in fraternities. The most common fraternity is Sigma Alpha Mu, with seven billionaires. However, the billionaires of Beta Theta Pi have accumulated the most wealth with a combined net worth of $107 billion.

Union Triad. The Union Triad is a group of the three oldest existing Greek-letter social fraternities in North America that were founded at Union College in Schenectady, New York: the Kappa Alpha Society (established 1825), the Sigma Phi Society (1827) and the Delta Phi (1827).

During his time at Indiana University Bloomington, Cuban was a member of the Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity and engaged in several entrepreneurial pursuits, including operating a bar and even offering disco lessons!

How much are fraternity dues at IU? ›

Members of Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Association chapters will be charged $50/semester. Members of Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic Council chapters will be charged $30/semester.

To be eligible to join any sorority or fraternity at IU, you must complete the Prospective Member Orientation prior to being added to a chapter's roster and before beginning the new member education process. No exceptions will be made.
