Introduction
Ochette’s first chapter starts out by telling you about the three Creatures of Legend that watched over her island for many years. According to the Toto’haha legends, they can be called back to the island before the Night of the Scarlet Moon calamity.
You’ll also meet Ochette’s mentor, Juvah the lion, who will ask you to choose your animal companion – either the Malamaowl or a Lajackal. Use Ochette’s nighttime Path Action, Befriend, to have one of the animals follow you.
The owl can attack an elemental weak point while the jackal can aim for a weapon weak point. This choice is permanent, so consider your current and future party needs before deciding.
Ochette will give a name to whichever animal you choose – Mahina for the owl, and Akala for the jackal. Then, you’ll be thrown right into a boss fight with your new partner.
King Iguana
King Iguana is a relatively simple boss fight that the game uses as Ochette’s tutorial. She uses a bow, an axe, and Lightning magic – all of which are strong against this boss.
You can summon your animal companion using the Beast Lore option in the combat menu. Your companion will usually hit a weakness, whether it be elemental or physical, so it’s best to start fights with them for guaranteed shield damage.
Once you deal enough damage, you’ll learn about Ochette’s Capture ability. It allows her to catch monsters to use them later in battles. Breaking monsters’ shields, inflicting status ailments, and lowering their health will make these captures easier.
Beasting Village
The game will drop you in a small area after the boss fight and tell you to return to the village. Before you do that, though, be sure to grab the chest close by. You won’t be allowed to explore this location very much, but the northeast path leads to a chest containing an Unerring Ring.

Humans arrive to threaten the beastlings into handing over parts of their forest, but Juvah arrives to intervene. You’ll also need to step in using Ochette’s daytime Path Action: Provoke.
During Provoke battles, you can only attack using creatures that you’ve captured, along with your animal companion.
After winning the fight, you’ll get another tutorial about Ochette’s Prepare ability. This one allows her to turn captured beasts into items that have various uses.
For example, turning beasts into jerky will let you buy items in the village shop – the beastlings don’t use leaves as currency.
When ready, meet Juvah on the western hill near the Save Point. Humans will arrive once again, this time led by their chief, Cohazeh. She’ll ask for help in saving a lost child, and Ochette will volunteer for the task. Exit the village to the south to get started.
Path to the Tombs of the Wardenbeasts
This is the same area that you were in after the King Iguana tutorial fight. This time, we have a full map for you, now that you’re able to explore and head east. Try to earn at least 30 JP (Job Points), either here or in the actual tombs, to unlock one of several useful skills.
Try to catch the Island Froggen II in this area, as it’ll be useful when fighting this chapter’s final boss.
Cleaving Blow is Ochette’s first Axe attack skill, and it also provides a buff. Mercy Strike makes it easier to capture beasts by leaving them at 1HP on fatal blows. And Leghold Trap forces an enemy to act last for two turns, giving you more flexibility in combat.

Tombs of the Wardenbeasts
This area is Danger Level 5, so it’s best to grind out a level or two before entering if you need to. As Ochette, you should try to capture as many beasts as possible to expand your combat options. The captured beasts can cover for weapons or elemental moves that you lack.
We highly recommend capturing the Shambling Weed and Manticore in this area, as the former can heal you and the latter is useful for the upcoming boss fight.
Capturing beasts is also more efficient than attacking until the enemy dies. You’ll save time, gain a new monster move, and can turn extra captures into items with the Prepare ability.

Calamity
Once you find the lost girl on the far right side of the map above, you’ll be transported back to the Path to the Tombs of the Wardenbeasts. Ochette will receive a warning of ‘calamity’ from the birds, and you’ll be forced to fight a mysterious creature on your way back to the village.
The Mysterious Fledgling can’t be captured, but it’s weak to Bow and Wind attacks and will die relatively quickly.
After the next scene, you’ll have one last chance to buy armor, weapons, and other items from a nearby peddler. Return to the village for a boss fight.
Boss Battle: Dark Entity
Upon entering Beasting Village, you’ll see Juvah engaged in battle with a giant monster. He’ll go down, forcing Ochette to step in and protect what’s left of the village.
This boss can be annoying because of its ability to summon little helpers. Island Froggen II will help tremendously by breaking all of the Mysterious Fledglings at once, and Ochette’s Axe and Hunter Skills can break the boss.
Partway through the fight, you’ll gain access to Ochette’s Latent Power: Animal Instincts. This ability lets her use special skills without consuming SP. Use Beastly Howl to reduce all enemies’ defenses and shield points, and Beastly Fangs to deal massive damage to the boss.

Venturing Out
After the battle, Juvah warns Ochette that the Night of the Scarlet Moon is approaching, which means calamity will come to the island. He’ll bring her to a mural depicting the three Creatures of Legend – Tera, Cateracta, and Glacis. Your job is to find them all and bring them back to the village.
The next viable route for Ochette’s Chapter 2 story comes with a level 15 recommendation, so take your time, level up, and gather more party members before continuing her tale.
