Board Ends School At St. Stanislaus By PAUL LAMIRAND Tribune Staff Writer WARSAW Diocesan school officials made it official here Monday: St. Stanislaus Catholic School in South Bend will not reopen this fall.

With two members abstaining, the Board of Education of the Fort Wayne -South Bend Diocese voted to concur with a May 18 decision by the South Bend Area Board of Catholic Education to shut down the school. A letter from Rev. Casimir Grabarz, pastor, relating declining enrollments, lack of adequate income and physical facilities now in disrepair led to the area board's decision, according to Rev. James Seculoff, dioscesan school superintendent. No sizable subsidy was made available to St.

Stanislaus in the past term by other South Bend district parishes, said Rev. Donald Guertin, diocesan board president. Said Eather Seculoff: "It would be hard for us to tell them to keep the school open unless we can tell them how to pay for it." Students Reassigned It has already been determined which neighboring Catholic or public schools the former St. Stanislaus children will attend beginning in September, he said. Classes at St.

Stanislaus, which served primarily the city's Polish community, began in 1900. The existing building at 422 N. Johnson St. was constructed in 1906, and the Sisters, home was built 10 years later. Valoo Gives Firs OK To CATV VALPARAISO An bling ordinance was approved Tuesday by the Valparaiso City Council to grant a franchise for community antenna television (CATV) system.

The measure will be considered again on June 28. A second ordinance, yet to be formalized, will include the name of the party who will be awarded the franchise by the City Council. The first ordinance provides that the franchise holder pay the city an amount equal to 2 per cent of the yearly gross of operating revenue received on sales of television signals, and receipts from installation charges during the year, amounting to an estimated $500 annually. $25 Installation Fee Charges to persons subscribing to CATV are $25 for the initial tap-in and connection fee, a monthly rate of $5 for one television set and $1 for each additional outlet in the same building. The ordinance also sets out that the mayor will appoint a special program planning committee of five persons, which will promote and advise in the production of programs of local origin.

It would, however, not have censoring authority. Three groups are reportedly interested in the CATV franchise: TelePrompTer Radio Station WAKE owner Leonard Ellis, and Valparaiso real estate developer Richard Daines, a Porter County councilman. Valpo Bug Fogging Stopped VALPARAISO There will be no insect control fogging on Valporaiso's streets during the summer for the first time in 15 years, Mayor Bryce Billings announced Tuesday. Billings said the city has decided to discontinue the fogging operation until a Purdue University entomology expert conducts a survey here to determine the best mosquito abatement program. He said most of the city's citizens, about 4 to 1 judging from letters coming to his office after announcing the study two weeks ago, are against continuation of the fogging program.

Opponents, he said, cited such reasons as discomfort to people with respiratory problems, damage to the songbird population, and traffic hazards resulting from children running or riding bicycles behind the fogger. Billings observed that the program actually cost close to five cents of the tax rate. He added that while the fo fogging machine will not be operating on city streets, it will be used when necessary in the park areas. Pleads Guilty To Charge Myron T. After debating at length the need for restructuring the diocesan board, members accepted the proposal of the reorganization committee. It was by Black, chairman of the committee. the present time it would be ill advised to eliminate the diocesan board or the area boards of education," the committee recommended. Area boards, the committee contended, "are vital to the growth of Catholic education within the diocese." It added that the diocesan board as presently constituted should add strength to area boards. Study Suggested It further recommended the committee become the sponsoring unit for a study to re structure and redefine the roles of all Catholic boards of education, "and within the following year recommend a specific proposal to the diocesan Rev.
